HealCam.com: Social Networking for Sick People?

In a (presumably) more sanitized version of popular chat-cam site ChatRoulette, MedGadget recently launched HealCam.com, a social networking hub for people with common ailments to show off their assorted wounds, swellings, and pink eyes on streaming video. “Does this look infected to you?” can now be answered authoritatively by complete strangers.

HealCam is, of course, just the latest tech spin on the age-old approach to wellness and healing: Having a support system in place to offer unprofessional advice. There’s definite comfort in knowing that someone out there shares your list of ailments, though message boards can perform the same function without looking into the possibly-unpleasant face of mutual (and unsightly) illness. … More »

How to Solve Your Problems While You Sleep

Dream Doctor Kelly Sullivan Walden has some thoughts on how important dreams and dream recall can be to your health.

It doesn’t seem so strange that most artists I know are avid dreamers. Perhaps by virtue of their profession (and ability to wake up leisurely in the afternoon without the blaring sounds of an alarm) they have a natural respect for dreams. However, it is the logical people in my life — the math professors, accountants, lawyers, and suit-and-tie wearing professionals who get up at the crack of dawn with an earth-shattering alarm who don’t seem to recall their dreams, nor do they seem to put much stock in them.

But we all dream, and we all have problems. In fact, one way of looking at life is that it is a constant stream of problems to solve (or, for the Pollyannas of the world, we call them “opportunities”). Not Watching the Game? What to Do on Super Bowl Sunday

On average, 100 million people tune into the Super Bowl every year. Last year, it was estimated that 153.1 million viewers caught a portion of the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts battle for the Vince Lombardi Trophy (even if it was just to watch the halftime show). This year, fans will watch the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Green Bay Packers in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, February 6th.
