Feeling under the weather and fabulously unfit? Then it might be time to move to Plano, Texas. According to a recent USA Today article, a new survey from Men’s Health and Women’s Health states that Plano is the top spot for healthy living. Following closely behind Plano are Fargo, North Dakota, and San Jose, California. The survey ranked cities based on 30 criteria, including obesity rates, smoking rates, and the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables. Then, it was just a benign habit that offended some but was largely promoted by social norms. Flash forward to now, and a similar habit plagues us: cell phones. They’re even more ubiquitous, and most of us use them more than even the heaviest smokers use cigarettes. After June 22, 2011, all packs of cigarettes will carry “larger, more visible” warning labels as a result of the Tobacco Control Act. The FDA proposed nine designs, all consisting of colored graphics illustrating the negative health effects that smoking can cause. The new warnings will take up at least half of the packaging.
